A native of Detroit, Renita was born to a young mother whom she first watched excel in the beauty industry. During her youth, she never considered that she too would soon walk that same path. Growing up, going to college and a traditional corporate job seemed like the only path that was for certain for her with family. She was going to be the first grandchild to graduate from a university with a degree. Well, she earned that with honor! …but was it going to be enough?
Corporate life wasn't ideal however Renita did what she thought she was supposed to for 10 years! After being laid off from a few jobs when she moved to North Carolina, she decided enough was enough. Renita was going to secure her own future with…entrepreneurship. Her first venture was in fashion with a plus size clothing boutique, Infinite Style. A passion that was birthed out of frustration for the lack of stylish, affordable pieces for larger women. At a certain point in her venture, Renita sought out to gain an trade to help funnel more money to ultimately scale the business. In this process, she found a new love. She became a licensed in Esthetician and was hooked! Fashion, for now had to take a back seat.
Beauty and brows became her world. Renita became dubbed as the “Browzilla” for slaying every brow she touches. The instant gratification her clients feel when they get up, is what she says will never get old. That feeling continues today! And now as a beauty studio owner, she is helping other beauty professionals experience it by offering rental spaces in her first location! Renita has been a licensed esthetician for over 7 years, and she truly believes she’s found her passion.
Davita Galloway is a founder/owner of DUPP&SWAT, a creative studio, that served/s as a platform and launching pad for herself and others. To be frank, it is because of Galloway's authentic work and presence, at this studio and within Charlotte's creative community, that has afforded many other opportunities.
With that, Davita is a change agent, a creative, a host, speaker, costumer, a doer, disruptor and a creator of all things dope. She attended The University of North Carolina at Charlotte, where she received an MSPH, as well as Parsons The New School for Design in New York. Galloway is adamant about the need for genuine expression—further evident in her various ventures such as CrownKeepers, a nonprofit, HUE HOUSE, a creative agency, and The NV INC, a beauty entity, where she serves as Executive Director, and Co-Owner respectively. More, as a proponent and champion of building community, social equity, entrepreneurship, economic opportunity and pure authenticity, Davita enjoys collaboration with impact on those outputs. Fun and hella dope fact, a portrait of Galloway is now a part of the permanent collection at the Harvey B Gantt Center for African American Arts + Culture.
